One-Time Volunteer

 

Special Events

Do you enjoy helping with special events (setup, teardown) or volunteering at events?  If so, please contact our Development department at development@larcheerie.com for more information.

 

Special Skills

Are you a plumber, painter, or crafty? Do you have computer skills or fix-it skills which we may need in our homes? If so, we can use your help!

 

Volunteer less than 30 hours per month

Are you a student or do you know students who need volunteer hours? We love to have students complete simple tasks for us at our homes or our office (landscaping, organizing, filing, cleaning, group projects, etc).

Active Volunteer

One to Four times a month (less than 40 hours a month)

Suggestions of how to help:
You will be paired with a home where you will build relationships. You will not be asked to stay alone with core members, although you may often be asked to visit on days the home is short on assistants.   

  • Help make dinner with a Core Member (an individual with an intellectual disability)
  • Support a Core Member with routines: exercises, laundry, set table, play games
  • Assist Core Members with tasks, such as washing vans, gardening, making crafts  & puzzles
  • Read or just sit on the porch relaxing together.
  • Aid with house outings, such as ball games, concerts, zoo, etc.

Training:
We ask for at least a two month commitment in order to ccover the cost of your training.

  • Physical and TB test (paid for by L’Arche)
  • L’Arche Overview
  • Fire Safety
  • Basic in-home training

More than once a week (more than 40 hours a month)

Suggestions of how to help:
You will be paired with a home where you will build relationships. You will often be asked to fill in when an assistant is away.

  • Prepare dinner with a Core Member
  • Support a Core Member with routines: exercises, laundry, set table, play games
  • Assist Core Members with tasks, ie washing vans, gardening, making crafts and puzzles
  • Read or sit on the porch relaxing together.
  • Aid on house outings, such as ball games, concerts, zoo, etc.
  • Help Core Members with their personal care to the level you are comfortable.

Training:
You will be given training needed to help out as an assistant in all ways, except administering medications. You would be able to be alone with core member, drive vans, and help with personal care. We ask for at least a three-month commitment in order to justify the cost of your training.

  • New Assistant Orientation
  • Complete in-home training
  • Fire Safety
  • First Aid/CPR
  • Van Training with a copy of driver’s license needed
  • 24 hours of additional trainings per year
  • Physical and TB test (paid for by L’Arche)
  • Criminal Background Check
