Realtionships of Mutuality
This is what we do. At the heart of our everyday lives with intellectually disabled adults, we have 'relationships of mutuality'.
We define these as "relationships of acceptance and equality where respect, openess, support and forgiveness are reciprocated. We learn from one another and call each other to growth. We celebrate each other in joyous times and walk together throuIh difficult ones. We recognize the unique and sacred value in each other. it is the on-going committment and effort in the relationship, by both individuals, that make it one of mutuality. The fruits of a relationships of mutuality can be love, trust and friendship. "
